New York Red Bulls sign former Torino goalkeeper Luca Lewis from RBNY II

The New York Red Bulls have signed goalkeeper Luca Lewis to an MLS contract, the club announced Friday. Lewis was with the club's USL Championship affiliate RBNY II to finish 2020.


Lewis, 19, made 27 appearances with 14 clean sheets between the U-17 and U-19 teams for Serie A club Torino. He returned stateside in September to sign with RBNY II, where he made three starts.


“We’re pleased to add Luca to the First Team,” head of sport Kevin Thelwell said in a club statement. “He’s a good young talent with a range of experiences that have helped him develop his game physically and mentally. We like what we’ve seen from him the last few months and think his game fits well with our style of play.”


Lewis is the club's third goalkeeper on the roster, alongside David Jensen and Ryan Meara. The shot-stoppers split the starts in 2020, with Meara starting in goal for 13 games and Jensen the other 10.
