Miguel Herrera says he's had no contact with the LA Galaxy about coach opening

Miguel Herrera - Club America coach - thumbs up

Miguel Herrera has poured cold water on suggestions that he could become the next LA Galaxy head coach.

Despite numerous stories linking the Club America manager to the five-time MLS Cup champions, Piojo reportedly told MARCA Claro that he prefers any next step would instead be to Europe. Herrera has led the Liga MX club since 2017 and previously steered Mexico during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The Galaxy find themselves searching for a new head coach after Guillermo Barros Schelloto was dismissed last week following LA going 5W-11L-3D during a tumultuous 2020 season. Under interim head coach Dominic Kinnear, they rebounded with a win over Real Salt Lake last weekend to keep their Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoff hopes alive, and now two final tests await to possibly sneak into the Western Conference field.

LA’s opening has also included links to former captain Robbie Keane, and their search is bound to include several other headline-grabbing names.

But based on Piojo’s comments, it seems as though he’s not shipping to the City of Angels anytime soon. He's also never coached outside of Mexico, so the move would represent a stark shift.
