Inter Miami's Gonzalo Higuain shown red card following postgame confrontation with referee

MLS and the Professional Referee Organization confirmed on Sunday that Inter Miami star forward Gonzalo Higuain was sent off after the conclusion of the Week 19 match that saw the Montreal Impact beat Inter Miami 2-1 at Red Bull Arena.


Referee Tim Ford showed Higuain a red card for "offensive, insulting and abusive language," following a postgame confrontation.

Higuain will miss Inter Miami's big Week 20 match on Saturday afternoon against Orlando City (3:30 p.m. ET on Univision, TUDN, Twitter) to serve the automatic one-game suspension for the red card.


Since being acquired on Sept. 18, the Argentine has a goal and an assist in six total starts. With just four matches to play, Inter Miami are two points out of a playoff spot on 18 points (5W-11L-3D).
