Vela opted out of the MLS is Back Tournament this past July while his wife was pregnant with their second child, citing family reasons.

Vela, 31, has been rehabbing from a Grade 2 MCL sprain that he suffered in an Aug. 22 game against the LA Galaxy. The Mexican forward, whoā€™s also a Designated Player, has been training and working his way back to full fitness.

A season ago, Vela was named the Landon Donovan MLS MVP after posting 34 goals and 15 assists for the 2019 Supportersā€™ Shield winners. This year's injury and long layoff leave Vela with only three regular-season appearances and two goals to date.

Now with a baby girl at home, Vela will look to continue to his recovery and join LAFC for a push into the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.
