Christian Pulisic given No. 10 shirt for Chelsea, returns to full-team training

US men’s national team star Christian Pulisic has been given Chelsea’s No. 10 jersey ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season, the club announced Thursday.

Pulisic gets the famed number after Willian left for Arsenal. He follows the likes of Eden Hazard, Joe Cole and Juan Mata to don the No. 10 in the past.

The Hershey, Pennsylvania, native had 11 goals and 10 assists in 34 games last season, his first with Chelsea since joining from Borussia Dortmund. Those impressive numbers came despite being hampered by injuries, including a hamstring injury that forced him out of the FA Cup final after becoming the first American to score in the final at Wembley Stadium. That ruled him out of Chelsea’s season-ending Champions League Round of 16 second leg match against Bayern Munich.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard said Pulisic returned to full training Wednesday and is in contention for the Blues opener Monday against Brighton.
