TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan
Charlotte FC have loaned first-ever signing Sergio Ruiz to Spain's Las Palmas, the club announced Thursday. Las Palmas plays in Spain's second tier.
The move comes with a loan fee containing incentives based on playing time, a source tells MLSsoccer.com. Las Palmas faced late competition for Ruiz's loan signing from multiple clubs in England's Championship, a source adds.
“After carefully considering our options in Europe, we decided it was a perfect fit for Sergio to join Las Palmas,” sporting director Zoran Krneta, said in a club statement. “La Liga2 is a strong league that Sergio knows well and one that suits his playing style. Las Palmas is a big club intent on returning to La Liga, and they view Sergio as a key player in achieving that goal. We look forward to welcoming Sergio back to Charlotte ahead of our 2022 inaugural season.”

Ruiz, 25, is very familiar with the league. He played for Racing Santander for three years after graduating from its reserve team in 2016. His six goals and seven assists in the 2018-19 campaign helped earn promotion to the Spanish second division.
