Canada men's national team attacker Jonathan David started and played 64 minutes for Lille in his Ligue 1 debut, which ended in a 1-1 draw against Stade Rennes on Saturday night.

Employed as a second striker in a 4-2-2-2 (according to ESPN FC), David struggled to find chances in his first competitive action since moving on from Belgium's Juliper League, where he scored 18 goals in 27 games last season for Gent.

However, he did at least depart the match with a lead thanks to a 40th-minute goal from teammate Jonathan Bamba.

Both clubs were reduced to 10 men by halftime, and Damien Da Sliva found a 74th-minute leveler for visiting Rennes.
