Portland Timbers clap back at Seattle Sounders after making MLS is Back final

EMBED ONLY - Timbers/Sounders MLS is Back tweets

The Seattle Sounders fired the first salvo with a cleverly crafted tweet previewing the first semifinal of the MLS is Back Tournament.

After beating the Philadelphia Union to reach the competition’s final Wednesday night, the Portland Timbers clapped back in style.

The Sounders’ tweet highlighted the first letter of each sentence to spell out DOOP in apparent support of the Union against their rivals.

The Timbers response, in part came on the field with a 2-1 win, and then with this response to their Cascadia foes.

You'll notice the "A-C-E-S" letters that line up: a popular acronym among Timbers fans that stands for "Any Club Except Seattle." It's a multi-layered dig that Timbers supporters will surely savor.

But watching the Timbers locker room celebration might have been tougher to stomach for Sounders fans than any social media burn:

The Timbers are awaiting their MLS is Back Tournament Final opponent, which will be decided when Minnesota United meet Orlando City SC Thursday (8 pm ET | ESPN2, ESPN Deportes; TSN, TVAS2).
