New England Revolution midfielder Carles Gil has undergone successful surgery on his left Achilles tendon, the club announced Thursday.


The procedure was performed in Spain on Tuesday, with Gil facing an anticipating recovery period of three-to-five months.


The 27-year-old formed one of the league's most lethal attacking duos along with Gustavo Bou after joining the club prior to the start of last season, putting in a stellar campaign that saw him rack up 10 goals and 14 assists, while starting all 34 games en route to winning MLS Newcomer of the Year honors. He was also a MLS best XI selection.


Gil started each of New England's first two matches of the MLS is Back Tournament, picking up one assist before getting sidelined with the injury.
