TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing

Minnesota United announced on Monday the signing of French defender Bakaye Dibassy from French side Amiens using Targeted Allocation Money. Dibassy will occupy an international spot on Minnesota’s roster and will join the Loons upon the opening of the Secondary Transfer Window on August 12 pending a physical and receipt of his P1 Visa and ITC.

The 30-year-old is joining MNUFC after four seasons with Amiens, including the last three in Ligue 1. He's primarily a center back, but also has played left back. The signing completes a move manager Adrian Heath had revealed last month the club were attempting to complete, as first reported by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

“Acquiring someone like Dibassy, who possesses experience, versatility and incredible athleticism — who has played so many games in the top leagues in France," Heath said in a statement. “I liken him to Romain Metanire – very strong, loves to run, loads of experience and a great character fit for this club. We are delighted to bring him in.”

Since joining Amiens in 2016 on a free transfer from CS Sedan, Dibassy has made over 130 appearances. He's scored nine times at the club — twice during the 2019–20 season.

Dibassy's career began at fifth-tier Olympique Nosiy-le-Sec, and included stops on every subsequent rung of the French league pyramid before joining Amiens when they were in Ligue 2 and helping them earn promotion.

Born in Paris, Dibassy is of Malian decent and represents the Mali national team, receiving four caps since making his debut in 2017 in a World Cup Qualifier against Morocco.
