Former Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron picks up assist in Newcastle United win

Miguel Almiron - celebrating - goal vs Wolves

Miguel Almiron picked up an assist in his first game back from the Premier League’s COVID-19 stoppage as the former Atlanta United standout helped lead Newcastle United to a 3-0 home win over Sheffield United Sunday.

The Paraguayan midfielder was influential throughout and was denied his own goal when his first-time attempt went directly into goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Almiron, who played the entire 90 minutes, set up Joelinton for Newcastle’s third goal against a Sheffield United side reduced to 10 men five minutes into the second half on John Egan’s second bookable offense.

US men’s national team fullback and former Seattle Sounders Homegrown signing DeAndre Yedlin came off the bench to play the final few moments before the full-time whistle.
