Inside Jaap Stam's first FC Cincinnati training session

He was officially hired as head coach on May 21, but Jaap Stam held his first training session with FC Cincinnati Tuesday morning. He had already arrived in the region, but had to wait on the results of coronavirus testing before he was cleared to join the club.

Stam’s day started with a meeting with FCC majority owner Carl H. Lindner III and president Jeff Berding before a lengthy training session where Stam began implementing his tactics and made his first in-person assessments of his new players ahead of the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando next month.

“It was good, it was very enjoyable,” Stam told FCCincinnati.com. “We had the meeting, of course, this morning with everybody in the building. It was good, very positive.”

Stam said he was impressed with the facilities and looks forward to the days ahead as the team continues to grasp his ideas.

“I think they were very positive,” Stam said of the players. “The attention was there, they were willing to pick up things we were asking from them in terms of possession games and the big games as well.”
