TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension

The Montreal Impact have extended the loan of Finnish international Lassi Lappalainen’s loan until December 31, 2020, from Italian club Bologna FC 1909, the club announced Tuesday.

“We are really pleased with Lassi’s loan extension and we’re happy to have him stay with us,” Impact sporting director Olivier Renard said in a statement. “He is the type of player with a profile we like in our roster, meaning a young player with huge potential. He showed his qualities in MLS since last July and we put a lot of trust in him. Lassi feels good in this city and wanted to remain in this club.”

The 21-year-old winger scored a brace on his debut — a 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Union — en route to five goals and an assist in 11 regular season games since joining the Impact midway through the 2019 season.

Lappalainen joined the Impact after finishing atop HJK Helsinki with six goals since the start of the 2019 season, scoring three regular season goals, two goals in the UEFA Champions League and one in the Finnish Cup. He previously played a season and a half on loan with Rovaniemen Palloseura, also in the Veikkausliiga, in 2017 and 2018, scoring a combined 12 goals in 39 regular season games and three goals in five Finnish cup games.

He's been capped seven times by Finland, including five in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, helping his country qualify for the first time.
