US men’s national team and Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper Zack Steffen has a simple message: Now is the time for action.

Through the VOYCEnow platform, the former Columbus Crew SC shot-stopper established a GoFundMe page that’ll support small businesses that were damaged during the protests for equality. As of publishing, they raised $32,280 of a $1 million goal.

“We will not stop protesting injustice, and we will not stop fighting for equality,” Steffen wrote. “However, we do want to make sure that we take care of those who suffer along the way. All donations to this fund will help these mom-and-pop businesses have a stepping stone toward rebuilding.”

Steffen added that the exact businesses will be updated throughout the campaign. He also encouraged other athletes to use their platform to advocate for change and make the world a better place.

“We are asking our fans and followers to speak up and tell us which small businesses in their cities need financial support to bounce back,” Steffen wrote. “We will continually update donors throughout the campaign to share the specific businesses that this fund will benefit.”
