In a powerful message about the need for a systemic change to combat racism on his Twitter account, former Seattle Sounders standout Steve Zakuani talked about being profiled by police as a young teenager in London.

“I speak to you as a Black man who age 14 was stopped on his way to practice, searched — open my backpack, open my pockets — accused of being responsible for a string of break-ins in that particular neighborhood,” Zakuani said. “I was 14 years old.”

Zakuani also discussed racism, police brutality and the ongoing protests throughout the world sparked by the killing of George Floyd in a podcast with former Sounders teammate Brad Evans.
