Houston Dynamo's Alberth Elis says he has new contract offer, but is still eyeing Europe

Alberth Elis - Houston Dynamo - hand to ear

Transfer rumors surrounding Alberth Elis are nothing new, so it should come as no surprise that this offseason has featured more of them for the 24-year-old Houston Dynamo forward.

Elis, who is out of contract at the end of 2020, said in an interview with Radio America in Honduras on Wednesday that his ultimate dream is to try and play in Europe, and that he's been in discussions with teams overseas to try and make that a reality.

"For me it is a dream to be able to go to Europe and I think this is the chance," Elis said, per translation of the interview from Dynamo broadcaster Glenn Davis. "This is the opportunity and I think I will make the decision in the end of trying to make the jump. God first, a good opportunity will come to try and make the leap."

However, the Dynamo are evidently at least making an attempt to get him to say in Houston, with Elis claiming that the club has made him the highest contract offer in its history.

It's certainly a storyline to keep an eye on for the Dynamo, who have made Elis a key building block of their attack over the last three seasons. Elis has scored 30 goals and racked up 24 assists in 82 career MLS games for Houston since 2017 and is coming off another productive year in 2019 that saw him score nine goals and dish out 10 assists.
