Liga MX announced the cancelation of the remainder of its season — the entirety of the 2020 Clausura campaign — due to the coronavirus pandemic.

An announcement is expected the first week of June regarding the return of training and the Apertura start date has yet to be determined.

As a result, Cruz Azul and Club Leon will qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

“It is indisputable that we are experiencing an unprecedented situation in our country, which forces the soccer industry in Mexico to act with absolute good sense and to respond with unity to the demands that have been presented to us,” the league’s statement read.

This comes on the heels of four additional positive COVID-19 tests at Santos Laguna, bringing the total at the club to 12.
