USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter responds to Concacaf Nations League suspension

Gregg Berhalter thumbs up

After Concacaf on Friday announced the suspension of the semifinals and finals of the Concacaf Nations League have been suspended until a further date, US national team manager Gregg Berhalter has come out in support of the decision in a statement.

"Given the circumstances, the decision makes complete sense," Berhalter said in the statement, referencing the current, global coronavirus pandemic.

He went on to stress that domestic soccer around the region should be restored before turning to international competition.

"When the timing is right, the priority is to get the leagues back up and running, and then the national teams come next," he said. "We have a close-knit group that continues to grow, and we are using this time to maintain our connections. When we do get back together we'll regroup and be as focused as ever."

The semifinals and finals of the competition, which included the USMNT, Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras, were originally scheduled for June 4 and 7 in Houston.
