FC Cincinnati attacker Siem de Jong eligible to make club debut Saturday

Siem de Jong with Ajax - FC Cincinnati

FC Cincinnati could receive some reinforcements when the club hosts D.C. United this Saturday (5:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, on DAZN in Canada), as former Ajax attacker Siem de Jong will reportedly be eligible for selection for the first time this season.

De Jong has missed each of the club's first two games – both losses – while finalizing his visa paperwork. But club reporter Charlie Hatch has a story outlining how those final nuts and bolts have been squared away, making De Jong cleared to take the field.

"We are all very happy and excited to have him here with us," interim head coach Yoann Damet said. "He's also very excited to be part of the team and be involved with the team as soon as possible."

De Jong, 31, was officially signed from Ajax in February after spending last season on loan with Australian club Sydney FC, where he scored four goals and dished out three assists in 15 appearances. The creative midfielder also has six caps with the Dutch national team.

De Jong was one of several marquee attackers FC Cincinnati signed this offseason, with forward Jurgen Locadia and Yuya Kubo the others.
