Video Review: Inter Miami have goal disallowed and defender sent off

Referee Rubiel Vazquez - Inter Miami - March 7, 2020

Inter Miami CF looked to be on their way to the club's first-ever win in MLS, but the proceedings took a sharp turn for the expansion club just 10 minutes into the second half.

Lewis Morgan looked to have put Miami up 2-0 on D.C. United at Audi Field after his shot took a wicked deflection and finished in the back of the net. But the Video Assistant Referee Geoff Gamble flagged referee Rubiel Vazquez to an issue with the play.

Watch the Video Review below:

Before the goal was scored, Inter Miami center back Roman Torres had misplayed a pass that was intercepted by D.C.'s Julian Gressel. The two players fought to control the ball, with no one between Torres and the Miami goal. The ball eventually bounced up and made contact with Torres's arm, but no whistle came from the referee.

After Vazquez had a chance to review the play, he disallowed Morgan's goal and showed a red card to Torres for denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

D.C. United would go on to overturn the 1-0 deficit and win the match 2-1.
