New York City FC could be in the mix for an addition just before the 2020 MLS season starts, according to a report out of Uruguay from Sport 890's Andres Cancellara.

He outlines that NYCFC are in negotiations to bring in defensive midfielder Nicolas Acevedo, who currently plays for Uruguayan side Liverpool FC Montevideo. Per Cancellara, the deal is all but complete and Acevedo will travel to the US to join the club.

Acevedo, 20, has been with Liverpool since 2018 and has since logged 36 appearances with their first team. He's also featured extensively for Uruguay's U-20 side, namely at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup alongside the LAFC duo of midfielder Francisco Ginella and winger Brian Rodriguez.

Earlier this winter, Acevedo also competed for Uruguay's U-23 side at the 2020 Conmebol Pre-Olympic Tournament. However, they missed out on heading to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, with Brazil and Argentina instead booking spots.

Should Acevedo join the Cityzens, it'd give Ronny Delia's side another deep-lying midfielder alongside the likes of Keaton Parks, James Sands and Alexander Ring.
