MLS Preseason 2020: Montreal Impact fall 2-1 to Tampa Bay Rowdies in final CCL warmup

Evan Bush - Montreal Impact - Sad

The Montreal Impact continued their losing streak, but ended a goal drought, finishing the preseason schedule with a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The troubles began fairly early for Montreal, with the Rowdies earning a penalty before the 15-minute mark. Goalkeeper Evan Bush saved Sebastian Guenzatti's penalty, but the Rowdies player was able to score the rebound to put his team ahead.

Both teams had their opportunities to add to the scoreline in the first half, but neither converted. The Impact started the second half well, but eventually conceded another goal, as Guenzatti scored his second of the night after beating a number of defenders.

Montreal managed a scoring opportunity on a counterattack several minutes later, but Anthony Jackson-Hamel's attempt finished wide of the goal.

The Impact found it difficult to get back into the match after going 2-0 down, but they scored a consolation goal with the final kick of the match, as substitute Romell Quioto scored a penalty after he was fouled in the area.

The result is the Impact's fourth straight preseason loss, and the team failed to score in each of them before Saturday's match. Montreal open their competitive season with a Champions League match at Saprissa on Wednesday, February 19 (8 pm ET on FS2 in US).
