TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

Real Salt Lake added a proven MLS veteran on Tuesday night, signing winger Justin Meram. The club announced the signing days after the signing of 18-year-old winger Jeizon Ramirez and the transfer of Venezuelan international Jefferson Savarino to Atletico Mineiro on a club-record fee.

Meram joins RSL after a year with Atlanta United where he mostly featured as a left wingback. He made 20 appearances with the Five Stripes in his ninth MLS season after spending his first eight years with Columbus Crew SC and Orlando City SC. Meram has made a total of 243 MLS appearances (173 starts) and has scored 43 goals along with 37 assists.

“Justin is a versatile, accomplished attacking player in our league,” said RSL GM Elliot Fall in a statement. “He has proven year after year to be productive in multiple roles and that experience will provide excellent value to our young roster.”

Internationally, Meram made his debut for Iraq in 2014 and has since accrued 33 caps with four goals to his credit. Three of his four goals came in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The 31-year-old figures to battle with Corey Baird for time on the left wing, along with a bevy of Homegrown options.
