MLS Preseason 2020: New York Red Bulls earn 2-1 win over Independiente del Valle

Kaku - New York Red Bulls - goal celebration

The New York Red Bulls recorded their third straight preseason victory on Saturday, with the latest a 2-1 win over Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J.

After the teams entered halftime scoreless, Independiente opened the scoring midway through the second stanza via Spanish winger Dani Nieto. But one goal apiece from Kaku and Mathias Jorgensen clawed RBNY back into the match and secured the win.

The Red Bulls began their preseason slate with a loss Jan. 24 against Atlanta United, but have since beaten the University of South Florida, D.C. United and Independiente in succession.

For the next leg of their 2020 preseason, RBNY will venture to Arizona to compete in the Visit Tucson Sun Cup. Matches against Houston Dynamo, Columbus Crew SC and Sporting Kansas City await before the clubā€™s MLS slate begins March 1 against FC Cincinnati.

Heading into 2020, RBNY will look to make it 11 straight trips to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. They finished first in the Eastern Conference five times last decade, plus brought home the Supportersā€™ Shield in 2013, 2015 and 2018.
