Atlanta United have acquired midfielder Matheus Rossetto from Athletico Paranaense for an undisclosed transfer fee, the club announced Monday. The deal was completed with Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

Rossetto, 23, is a central midfielder who had spent his entire career with Paranaense thus far, making 84 career appearances with the club. He helped lead Paranaense to win the Copa Sudamericana in 2018.

“Matheus is a technically gifted midfielder who gets around the field well,” Atlanta VP and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a club statement. “He fits our club profile, having already played in 70-plus league matches at only 23-years-old, along with international experience in Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. We’re pleased to add him to the team and look forward to him strengthening our midfield immediately.”

Following the departure of Darlington Nagbe, Rossetto is the second central midfielder brought in on a permanent basis this offseason by Atlanta, following Emerson Hyndman. Hyndman was on loan at the club for the second half of 2019.

Rossetto marks the latest transformation of the squad, which has seen the likes of Nagbe, Julian Gressel, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Tito Villalba and others depart this offseason. Rossetto, Hyndman, Brooks Lennon and Fernando Meza are among the club's major acquisitions this winter.
