TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The Portland Timbers addressed their need in attack by signing striker Jaroslaw Niezgoda, the club announced Thursday.

The 24-year-old Designated Player arrives from Legia Warsaw, which reportedly received a $3.8 million transfer fee in the deal.

Niezgoda scored 14 goals, and set up two others, in 18 games for Legia Warsaw in the Ekstraklasa this season, including three in his final two games with the club.

Overall, Niezgoda netted 29 goals in 60 appearances with Legia Warsaw after finding the back of the net 24 times in 67 games for Wisla Pulawy. He also spent a year on loan with Ruch Chorzow, where he scored 10 times in 28 games.

“Jarek is an important addition to the club and we believe he has all the attributes to be successful in MLS,” said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers, in a team release. “He has natural goal-scoring predatory instincts and the ability to score in many different ways. We look forward to getting him on the field.”

At a press conference last week, Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson said a completed medical for Niezgoda was the last hurdle.

Niezgoda has already made himself comfortable in Portland, taking in a Trail Blazers game with new teammate Dario Zuparic earlier this month.

Additional attacking help could be on the horizon with Felipe Mora’s reported loan-to-buy move Pumas UNAM all but official.
