Robert Beric - Saint Etienne - celebrating

Chicago Fire FC could make an offer for Saint-Etienne striker and Slovenia international Robert Beric, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

Beric had his most productive Ligue 1 season last year, scoring nine times, but has languished this year under new manager Claude Puel, who took over at the club on Oct. 4. Beric's only goal this campaign was a big one, however, a late winner against derby rivals Olympique Lyonnais.

Puel has stated his intention to trim his first-team roster, L'Equipe notes, and the Fire have room up front after the offseason departure of Nemanja Nikolic. CJ Sapong scored 13 goals last season for Chicago, but he is also employable in a wide attacking role.

The 28-year-old Beric has only produced double-digit league goals three times, and never in Ligue 1. But while at Rapid Vienna, he finished second in the Austian Bundesliga golden boot race in 2014-15, scoring 27 goals. He moved to Saint-Etienne the following season.
