Former Atlanta United attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron just can't stop scoring in 2020, finding the net for a third straight game for Newcastle United in an FA Cup third-round replay on Tuesday.
As the Magpies secured a 4-1 win over League One side Rochdale, Almiron scored his team’s third in the 26th minute following a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Almiron collected from 12 yards out and calmly slotted inside the near post to truly make it a one-sided affair.
Last weekend, Almiron scored in a 1-1 draw at Premier League foe Wolverhampton Wanderers; he also tallied in Newcastle’s first FA Cup matchup against Rochdale, a 1-1 draw on the road that promoted the second leg at St. James' Park. After going nearly 10 months without scoring for his new club, Almiron now has four goals across Newcastle’s last seven games.
Almiron, 25, holds the MLS record for an outgoing transfer at a reported $27 million after being sold last winter. He was electric for the Five Stripes, scoring 21 goals and recording 28 assists in 62 regular-season appearances and helping the team to win MLS Cup in 2018.
