TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

It appears Roman Torres might be staying in MLS after all.

The Panamanian center back has been widely linked to a move back to the Colombian league, where he once starred for nearly a decade with the likes of La Equidad and Millionarios, after parting company with the Seattle Sounders in the wake of their 2019 MLS Cup triumph.

According to The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio, however, Torres is set to sign with Inter Miami CF, which would provide a dose of veteran savvy and MLS experience ahead of their 2020 expansion debut.

Torres made $704,000 in guaranteed compensation in 2019, according to MLS Players Association documents. A move to Miami jibes with what Panama-based journalist Ricardo Icaza tweeted out earlier on Friday:

Meanwhile other reporters with apparent links to Torres’ camp suggest his final choice is still in flux, with Colombian clubs still in the mix:

Torres, 33, is a strapping physical presence whose reading of the game has sharpened in inverse proportion to the pace of his aging legs. He’s had one of the more colorful careers in recent North American soccer history, ranging from constant transfer rumors to a PED suspension to decisive roles in Seattle’s two MLS Cup championships over the past four years to iconic heroics in booking Panama’s first-ever World Cup qualification two years ago.
