Real Salt Lake completed a trade for Zac MacMath with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday, sending $50,000 in 2020 Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to the Canadian club to acquire the veteran goalkeeper.

MacMath appears to be a legitimate contender to take over the starting role vacated by club legend Nick Rimandoā€™s retirement, alongside incumbents David Ochoa and Andrew Putna, who have a combined total of six MLS starts between them.

ā€œWe welcome Zac to the team,ā€ RSL head coach Freddy Juarez said in a club release. ā€œHe brings valuable experience in MLS and will have an opportunity to compete to start.ā€

Itā€™s the fourth team in the MLS career of MacMath, 28, who carries a career record of 47-54-40 to RSL with 36 clean sheets and a 1.33 goals-against average.

He was selected fifth overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union, where he played 103 matches over four seasons before moving to the Colorado Rapids, first on loan and later permanently, latterly serving as the understudy to Tim Howard. A year ago he moved on to Vancouver, where he went 1-3-4 in eight starts, posting a GAA of 1.63.
