Ignacio Piatti's contract option for 2020 with the Montreal Impact has been picked up, so he's set to return for his seventh season in MLS, right? Maybe not, if a new report is to be believed.

Buenos Aires-based reporter Gonzalo Orellano claimed on Twitter on Friday that Piatti's wife wants to stay in Argentina and Piatti is looking at options to return to his previous club, San Lorenzo.

Piatti, 34, was limited by injury during the 2019 season, playing just 11 regular season games for Montreal and scoring three goals. However, he played a major role in the Impact's 2019 Canadian Championship triumph, and won the George Gross Memorial Trophy as the tournament's MVP.

While Piatti has routinely been linked to a return to Argentina since he signed for Montreal in 2014 (which local media was quick to point out in this instance), the Impact did officially pick up his contract option this offseason, meaning he is under contract for the upcoming campaign, which will be the first under head coach Thierry Henry.

The Impact will participate in the 2020 Concacaf Champions League, which kicks off in February, against Costa Rican power Saprissa.
