TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer

Real Salt Lake have signed Trinidad and Tobago right back Alvin Jones, the club announced Monday. Jones is likely best-known among MLS fans for scoring the game-winning goal for T&T to sink the USMNT's 2018 World Cup hopes.

A source told MLSsoccer.com that the deal was a transfer for a fee in the "low five-figures."

Jones, 25, spent the 2019 season with OKC Energy FC in the USL Championship, making 21 appearances. Prior to OKC, Jones won two titles in six seasons in his native T&T with W Connection and featured in the Concacaf Champions League.

ā€œWeā€™re happy to add a player of Alvinā€™s caliber to help make the team better. Heā€™s good on the ball and has good attributes in the attacking third.  Heā€™s athletic. Heā€™s strong,ā€ head coach Freddy Juarez said in a club statement. "Heā€™s a national team player and we hope that experience can make us a better team overall.ā€

Jones has made 19 appearances with the national team. His golazo against the USMNT remains his only goal on international duty. He is the younger brother of Seattle Sounders midfielder Joevin Jones.

Real Salt Lake recently traded Brooks Lennon to Atlanta United, creating a need for more options at fullback in his absence behind Aaron Herrera. He is just the fifth defender currently on the club's roster for 2020.
