TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Roster Update
Though it wasn't quite a press release, Victor Rodriguez made his departure from the Seattle Sounders more or less official on Monday, posting a farewell message to the club and their fans via an Instagram post:
After a few weeks of the MLS Cup the tough moment to say goodbye is here. But also THANKS, thanks to the @soundersfc community, to administrative, medical and coach staff, obviusly my teammates and our fans off course! Thank you for making me enjoy our football and thanks a lot for your love these two and half years. It’s hard to say goodbye when you’ve had so much love, but the familiy is always first and the most important for me! Astrid Judit and I will always be Seattle we will always be Sounders!💚
The news was widely expected, with the 30-year-old winger having already stated that he's likely to return to his native Spain to be closer to family as his young daughter Astrid battles medical issues. Seattle declined his contract option for 2020 earlier in the offseason.
Though injuries limited his availability over his three seasons in Rave Green, Rodriguez nonetheless made key contributions for the Sounders, scoring nine goals and 10 assists in 43 league matches (33 starts) and chipping in another 1g/2a in four Audi MLS Cup Playoffs matches.
