MLS Cup MVP Victor Rodriguez bids farewell to Seattle Sounders

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Roster Update

Though it wasn't quite a press release, Victor Rodriguez made his departure from the Seattle Sounders more or less official on Monday, posting a farewell message to the club and their fans via an Instagram post:

The news was widely expected, with the 30-year-old winger having already stated that he's likely to return to his native Spain to be closer to family as his young daughter Astrid battles medical issues. Seattle declined his contract option for 2020 earlier in the offseason.

Though injuries limited his availability over his three seasons in Rave Green, Rodriguez nonetheless made key contributions for the Sounders, scoring nine goals and 10 assists in 43 league matches (33 starts) and chipping in another 1g/2a in four Audi MLS Cup Playoffs matches.

His shining moment came in this year's MLS Cup final, where he scored the game-winning goal and earned MVP honors in Seattle's 3-1 victory.
