MLS announces 2020 home openers for all 26 clubs; season kicks off Feb. 29

2020 Schedule - Home Openers

Major League Soccer on Thursday announced the opening home games for all 26 clubs in 2020, with the new season set to kick off on February 29. In Week 1 alone there are some blockbuster matchups to whet the appetite.

Sure to grab plenty of attention, one of two new teams to enter the league in 2020, Inter Miami CF, will begin life in MLS with a visit to the dominant 2019 Supporters' Shield winners LAFC. On opening day, the other new expansion team, Nashville SC, will take on 2018 MLS Cup champions Atlanta United at Nissan Stadium in the first installment of what could become the next great MLS rivalry. That opening day will also see Tab Ramos begin his MLS coaching career when his Houston Dynamo team host the LA Galaxy.

That's not all Week 1 has to offer. Defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders will begin the new season by taking on a Chicago Fire FC team fresh from a transformative offseason that has seen a change of ownership, badge and home stadium. Chicago's return to downtown at Soldier Field will happen just a few weeks later when they take on Atlanta on March 21.

There is plenty to look forward to in between, including Miami christening its new stadium in Fort Lauderdale with the visit of co-owner David Beckham's former team, LA Galaxy, on March 14.
