One of Mexico’s brightest young attacking talents is considering an offer from MLS, according to a new report from ESPN Mexico.

Juan Jose Macias has been one of Liga MX’s most dangerous strikers in 2019, scoring 19 goals across the Clausura and Apertura campaigns for Club Leon while on a year-long loan from Chivas de Guadalajara. That productivity has earned him Mexico national team call-ups and he’s seized those opportunities as well, bagging four goals in five games for El Tri.

Macias, 20, is still in pursuit of further achievement as he and Leon attempt to mount a run in the Liguilla, Liga MX’s playoffs, where they’re the second seed and will host Morelia on Saturday in the second leg of their quarterfinal series after a wild 3-3 draw in Wednesday’s first leg.

But he’s also mulling the next phase in his career, which could involve a permanent transfer to Leon, a return to Chivas or a move to MLS, where an unnamed club has apparently made him an offer.

A key factor: Macias has ambitions to move to Europe sooner or later, and ESPN reports that the MLS offer contains provisions that would allow him to go should the chance present itself. Macias might fear Leon would place too high a price tag on his head and limit his options should he stay with La Fiera.
