TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
Nashville SC have found an MLS veteran to build their midfield around.
The expansion side acquired Dax McCarty in a trade with the Chicago Fire on Tuesday, sending $50,000 in General Allocation Money, $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money and a second-round pick in the 2021 SuperDraft to the Fire.
“Dax is a proven leader and winner and has done so in every club he’s been in throughout his career. He embodies the character and values of what our club will be on and off the field,” said Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs in a statement.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Nashville SC for the club’s inaugural MLS season and beyond,” said McCarty. “The buzz around the club is easy to feel and see. The opportunity and challenge of building something special from the beginning will be a unique experience that I feel privileged to be a part of. I can’t wait to get to Nashville and start preparing for the 2020 season.”

Nashville will be McCarty's fifth club during a 15-year MLS career. The wrecking-ball midfielder was probably most beloved during his six seasons with the New York Red Bulls, where he was a part of Supporters' Shield-winning sides in 2013 and 2015.
“We are entering a new cycle with the team’s roster,” said Fire president and GM Nelson Rodriguez. “Dax helped us through an important stage in the Club’s history and he will be remembered among our fans’ most favorite players. We wish Dax and his family all the best with their new opportunity in Nashville.”
But between the Red Bulls, a brief stop at D.C. United and his most recent foray with Chicago, McCarty has been one of he league's most consistent players, making at least 27 league appearances in each of the last nine seasons. He helped FC Dallas reach MLS Cup in 2010, starting four games during their playoff run.
The 32-year-old made the MLS Best XI in 2015 and is a two-time MLS All-Star (2015, 2017). He has a total of 13 caps with the US men's national team.
