Sergino Dest in line for first USMNT competitive cap, Pulisic out for Nations League

Sergino Dest - USMNT - 2019

Update, Nov. 11: US Soccer revealed the final roster for the November Concacaf Nations League matches on Monday, with Christian Pulisic officially ruled out after suffering a hip injury, the Chelsea star staying in England to recuperate, and new call-up Michael Bradley withdrawn after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday's 2019 MLS Cup Final.

Previous story, Nov. 7: After announcing his decision to choose the US men’s national team over the Netherlands, Sergino Dest could be cap-tied as one of nine European-based players selected for upcoming Concacaf Nations League matches, US Soccer announced Thursday.

The Ajax fullback, who played in a pair of international friendlies, will join a familiar group of European-based players, including an in-form Christian Pulisic, who has scored four goals in his last two league matches for surging Chelsea.

Pulisic is listed as a forward, along with Tyler Boyd from Besiktas. They join a pair of Bundesliga midfielders in Schalke’s Weston McKennie and Alfredo Morales, who made his return to the USMNT after a three-year hiatus in a international friendly loss to Mexico in September.

Newcastle United fullback DeAndre Yedlin, who is back from injury, joins Dest and veteran center backs John Brooks and Tim Ream as defenders called in.

The European-based players will join up with MLS-based players in Orlando for a camp that opens Nov. 10.

US Soccer originally announced a 20-player camp roster that started Nov. 2 in Bradenton, but not all of those players will be involved in the upcoming camp.

Some will participate with the U-23s at a tournament in Spain — that roster announcement is expected to be announced Thursday afternoon — while others will be released. Additional players competing in MLS Cup could be added, as well.

“We are happy to be able to call on this core group of players, especially with the significance of these upcoming matches.” USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter said in a statement. “They have been performing well for their clubs, and we look forward to preparing to get the results we need against Canada and Cuba. As competitors, these are the moments you relish. We will be ready.”
