As D.C. United continue their transition to the post-Wayne Rooney era, they may also be open to parting ways with midfielders Ulises Segura and Emmanuel Boateng, according to Pablo Maurer of The Athletic.

While Boateng was one of three pieces D.C. added at the close of the 2019 MLS Secondary Transfer Window in August, the potential departure of Segura might be considered more surprising.

The Costa Rica international played in all but one of the Black-and-Red's 34 games this season in a variety of midfield roles. Most recently, coach Ben Olsen employed Segura on the right as he benched playmaker Luciano Acosta and slotted Paul Arriola in the No. 10 role.

If there was a knock on Segura, it was his relative lack of offensive production, scoring five goals and adding three assists in 56 MLS appearances over two seasons.

Boateng, meanwhile, played only 51 minutes across three MLS appearances after arriving in D.C. from the LA Galaxy in exchange for $250,000 in Targeted Allocation Money.
