Minnesota United FC are coming off their best season to date in MLS, and they have reportedly locked up a key player for the foreseeable future.

Per The Athletic's Jeff Rueter, Minnesota have signed defender Michael Boxall to a multiyear contract extension.

The New Zealand international, a member of the Loons since they entered MLS in 2017, had a career year in 2019, starting 29 games and scoring two goals from his center back position, as Minnesota's defense improved substantially.

Beginning his pro career with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2011, in his MLS career to date the 31-year-old Boxall has played in 92 MLS regular-season games, and his appearance in Sunday's Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One clash for Minnesota, a 2-1 loss to the LA Galaxy, was his first career playoff game in MLS.
