LAFC-LA Galaxy ties record for highest-scoring playoff game in MLS history

It's been raining goals in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, and Thursday night's LAFC-LA Galaxy classic just stormed its way into the record books.

The eight goals scored in LAFC's 5-3 win over their city rivals tied a mark for most goals in a playoff game that was set all the way back in 1998 by Columbus and the New York Red Bulls (then known as the MetroStars).

The LAFC-Galaxy classic comes after two other 2019 playoff games came within a goal of tying the record. Another one of the most most dramatic and event-filled postseason matches in league history came between the Seattle Sounders vs. FC Dallas in Round One on Saturday, with the Sounders coming out on top in a 4-3 thriller – a level of excitement and goalscoring matched when the Philadelphia Union beat the New York Red Bulls by the same scoreline a day later.

It's been a goal-filled postseason, but it doesn't happen all that often. Here's the rundown:

All-time highest-scoring playoff matches:

8 goals - LAFC 5, LA Galaxy 3 (Oct. 24, 2019)
