TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension

Atlanta United and center back Miles Robinson have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, the club announced Tuesday.

Robinson, 22, appeared in all 34 games (33 starts) for Atlanta in the regular season while earning his first US men's national team cap in September in a breakout season. He was selected by the team No. 2 overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft though made just 10 appearances across his first two seasons in the league.

“Miles’ ability and potential was evident from the day we first scouted him, and we targeted him in the draft believing he could develop into a national team player,” technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. “He patiently waited for his opportunity to break into the starting lineup, continued to put in the work needed to improve his game, and now he’s an integral part of our backline. We’re excited to secure him to a long-term contract.”

Robinson and Atlanta have lifted both the U.S. Open Cup and Campeones Cup this year as well as MLS Cup last year. This season, Robinson's form put him on the ballot for MLS Defender of the Year.

He will anchor Atlanta's defense as the club get ready for their first Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs match on Saturday, Oct. 19 against the New England Revolution (1 pm ET | Univision, TUDN in US; TSN in Canada).
