FC Cincinnati vs. Atlanta United | 2019 MLS Match Preview

2019 MLS Regular Season Week 29
FC Cincinnati vs. Atlanta United
Nippert Stadium – Cincinnati
September 18 – 7:30 PM ET

FC Cincinnati will look to play spoilers and build off their first win under head coach Ron Jans when they host an Atlanta United team needing a win to remain in the chase for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

FC Cincinnati (6-21-3) snapped a nine-match winless streak, which included eight defeats, by knocking off the Montreal Impact 1-0 at Stade Saputo Saturday. Allan Cruz scored the game's lone goal in the opening minute, pouncing on a deflected Joe Gyau pass and hammering it into the net as the expansion side celebrated their first win since July and first clean sheet since March.

Atlanta United (15-11-3) are coming off a stunning 3-1 home defeat to Columbus Crew SC Saturday, and are now nine points behind first-place New York City FC and four behind the second-place Philadelphia Union. Josef Martinez got the Five Stripes going early, extending his MLS record to 14 consecutive league matches with a goal with his 24th strike of the season. But Gyasi Zardes and Luis Diaz struck seven minutes apart after the break and an own goal from Miles Robinson sealed Atlanta's fate.

This is the clubs' second meeting this year, with FC Cincinnati and Atlanta United sharing the points in a 1-1 draw at Mercedes-Benz Stadium March 10. Roland Lamah leveled four minutes from full time, canceling out Martinez's opening goal five minutes after kickoff.
