Josef Martinez has scored in 14 consecutive league matches, surpassing his previous MLS all-time record.
And now, he's approaching loftier, world-record heights.
Since MLS began play in 1996, the Atlanta United forward's consecutive games scoring record is third-best in the world. After opening the scoring against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, Martinez sits only behind Norwegian forward Tor Henning Hamre, who scored in 15 straight league games for Estonian club Flora Tallinn in 2003, and Lionel Messi, who scored in 21 consecutive league games for FC Barcelona in 2013-14. To surpass either player, Martinez has work to do, but with a hot streak of 19 goals in 14 games, you wouldn't necessarily count him out, either.
