For the first time since meeting in the Concacaf Gold Cup final, the US men's national team meets Mexico in the 70th edition of the fierce rivalry Friday night at MetLife Stadium.
In the first of two September international friendlies before opening Concacaf Nations League play next month, the USMNT are looking to avenge a 1-0 defeat to El Tri in the Gold Cup final at Chicago's Soldier Field. LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos scored the lone goal in the 73rd minute as Mexico celebrated a record eighth Gold Cup title.
Mexico leads the all-time series 35-19-15, but the USMNT are 14-7-6 since the turn of the century.
