26-man roster named for US men's national team September friendlies

US men's national team head coach Gregg Berhalter on Wednesday revealed his 26-man roster for September international friendlies against Mexico and Uruguay.

The USMNT take on El Tri Sept. 6 (8:30 PM ET | FS1, Univision, TUDN) from MetLife Stadium in the 70th edition of the rivalry before facing Uruguay at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Sept. 10 (8 PM ET | FS1, Univision, TUDN). It is the final two matches before the US open Concacaf Nations League in October.

"Along the lines of progress, the starting point for the roster is we’re able to maintain a core group of main players from the Gold Cup and continue building," USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter said in a statement. "We are also bringing some new players into the fold that we feel have the potential to make an impact with this team."

The roster features 15 players who competed in the Concacaf Gold Cup, two players — FC Dallas midfielder Paxton Pomykal and Ajax defender Sergino Dest — who are making the jump from the U-20 team that reached the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup and marks the return of Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan to the national team fold for the first time since the USMNT's failed World Cup qualification bid.

Among the 17 MLS players selected, FC Dallas lead the way with three representatives as goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez and right back Reggie Cannon join Pomykal. Columbus Crew SC, Atlanta United, San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders each send a pair of players, while New York City FC, the New York Red Bulls, Montreal Impact, LAFC, LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake have one representative apiece.
