Two teams desperately looking to leap rivals and make a push above the playoff line in their respective conferences meet in the midweek with Orlando City SC hosting Sporting Kansas City at Exploria Stadium.
Orlando City SC (8-11-6) are in ninth place in the East, three points below the line following a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at BMO Field Saturday night. Just moments after entering as a second-half substitute, Benji Michel gave the Lions the lead in the 69th minute. But any hope of all three points away from home was dashed eight minutes later as Patrick Mullins netted the equalizer, his first for Toronto FC since his arrival last month.
The playoff hopes for Sporting Kansas City (7-10-7) took a hit Saturday night with a 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at Children's Mercy Park, Sporting's third defeat in their last four games. SKC took the lead through a rocket of a free kick by Johnny Russell in the 31st minute, but Corey Baird leveled seven minutes later before scoring the winner in the 70th minute.
Adding to a frustrating night, Felipe Gutierrez slammed a penalty kick off the post in first-half stoppage time and Daniel Salloi was sent off on a straight red card for a dangerous tackle in the 84th minute as Sporting slipped to 10th in the West, eight points below the line.
