D.C. United’s busy Tuesday continued with the announcement that they’ve traded for Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Felipe, sending the Brazilian to his fourth MLS club in eight years. $75,000 in 2020 Targeted Allocation Money and a 2020 international roster spot was sent to Vancouver, who last January extended the 28-year-old to a deal through 2020 with an option for 2021.

Felipe comes to D.C. with 240 regular-season appearances in MLS, as well as 10 more in the playoffs. Across that span, he has scored 24 goals and dished out 48 assists. This season with Vancouver, Felipe has scored once in 18 appearances (13 starts) as Marc Dos Santos continues to reshape the Western Conference club.

“We are looking forward to adding more MLS experience to our midfield with the acquisition of Felipe,” said D.C. United GM and VP of soccer operations Dave Kasper in a statement. “We’re excited to add his ability to connect the game and break lines with his passing, as well as his competitiveness and bite."

On the trophy front, Felipe won the 2015 MLS Supporters’ Shield with the New York Red Bulls. He also helped the Montreal Impact, his first MLS club, win the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Championships.

The move comes after D.C. has deep-lying center mids Chris Durkin, Russell Canouse and Junior Moreno all out for varying amounts of time. The Black-and-Red, with two wins since mid-May, have just nine games left to hold onto a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

D.C. returns to action against the LA Galaxy this Sunday (7:30 pm ET | FS1 — Full TV & streaming info) for a high-profile clash between two MLS originals.
