With D.C. United looking for a spark to help them in the homestretch of the 2019 MLS regular season, a new report has emerged regarding a potentially big addition in the Secondary Transfer Window.

The Washington Post's Steven Goff reported on Friday that D.C. are looking to acquire forward Ola Kamara, are to pay a transfer fee to Chinese Super League club Shenzhen FC for the player, and will need to complete a trade with the Colorado Rapids to move to the top of the MLS Allocation ranking to seal the acquisition.

The 29-year-old Kamara has been in China for less than a year, after being sold to Shenzhen by the LA Galaxy at the end of February. But in China, he's played just six games. Because he was transferred out of MLS for a fee of over $500,000, he would subject to the Allocation Process upon his return.

The Norwegian international spent three seasons in MLS, with Columbus (2016-17) and the Galaxy (2018). He scored no less than 14 league goals in a season during his tenure, racking up 48 goals in 90 regular-season appearances in the league.

D.C. have struggled to find a second scoring option this season beside Wayne Rooney. The Englishman leads the way with 11 goals so far this season, but no other player on the team has more than five goals in league play.
