Vancouver Whitecaps FC made major changes to their roster in the offseason and one of the additions was Brazilian attacker Lucas Venuto. But his stay in British Columbia will be short-lived.

The Whitecaps announced on Thursday that they had mutually parted ways with Venuto, with reports in Brazil linking him with a move to Santos FC. The Brazilian team, coached by former Chile and Argentina national team manager Jorge Sampaoli, are looking for a revival to make them a power in domestic soccer once again.

Venuto, 24, was a TAM signing for Vancouver in January, on a multi-year contract from Austria Wien, after spending most of his prior career in Austria. With the Whitecaps, he had three goals and one assist in 22 league appearances, as the Whitecaps are the second-lowest scorers in MLS, with just 15 assists total to date this season, the worst mark in that category in the league.
