Goal of the Matchday

Jordan Morris strike wins Week 21 AT&T Goal of the Week

Sometimes you just need a little luck, some strength and a whole lot of perseverance.

Just ask Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris, who combined all three in last weekend’s 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo, with his effort named the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 21 of the MLS season. The US men’s national team player took home 39.74% of the vote, edging out a Cascadia Cup rival for first place.

The second slot went to Portland Timbers’ maestro Diego Valeri, whose lengthy run and curled finish garnered 26.16% of the vote. Taking up third place was another USMNT forward in Toronto FC star Jozy Altidore, who bagged a screamer from 25 yards against FC Cincinnati. Altidore got 16.91% of the vote.

In fourth was San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Vako, who earned 13.04% of the vote. He has six goals in San Jose’s last eight games. Last but not least, New England Revolution forward Gustavo Bou’s tic-tac-toe effort brought home 4.15% of the vote in what was his second goal since signing a Designated Player deal in early July.

Morris and the Sounders return this Sunday at home against Sporting Kansas City (10 pm ET | FS1, TSN 1/3).
